How long after stopping Lamictal does the rash go away?

The rash is typically an allergic reaction that will go away in time. Once the Lamictal is stopped the rash should go away on its own over time.  Usually just a few days. Should the rash not go away you should consult a doctor to ensure it’s not something else going on with your body.

What are the side effects of too much Lamictal?

Lamictal side effects are dizziness, incoordination, having sleep issues, head pain, doubled or fuzzy vision, nausea, vomiting, and most common is rashes. Those symptoms are common when you need to lower your amount dosage. Some rarer side effects of taking Lamictal would be mixing it with a valproic acid such as Depakote which is also used for bipolar, seizures, and mood swings. When mixed you could feel anxious or nervous or/and abnormal behavior or/and weight gain. There also a 5% to 10% chance of you getting a serious rash. If you are taking a toxic amount of Lamictal you could experience a coma and slurred speech. If you are dealing with any of the side effects call your doctor and see what you could do. The side effects of mixing different drugs with Lamictal could lead you to be hospitalized or even death.

What is the long term side effect of Lamictal?

Some of the long term side effects would be a deadly rash on your skin.  As well as,  thoughts of suicide, brain cancer, and diseases that affect your immune system process. The most common side effect is getting the rash.  This rash can lead to fevers as well as shortness of breath.  Contact your doctor for support and help if you feel any of these side effects.

Another side effect is Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis.  If you feel like you are dealing with Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis which is a life-threatening problem to your immune system. How to tell you could have it if you feel like your spleen swelling, organ system swelling, and blood abnormalities. If you don’t get treated right away you would not have to face death.  Call your doctor if any side effects arise.

Can Lamictal affect your eyesight?

If you are dealing with bipolar depression you will need to take a higher dosage but, it could definitely help you when you are going into a fast mood swing.  Lamictal does not go well with any antidepressants and compared to other meds Lamictal have less harmful side effects.

What are the most common side effects of Lamictal?

Rashes are the most common side effect of Lamictal.  Other small side effects are dizziness, shaking uncontrollably, sleepy or sluggish feeling, which could lead to having a headache or migraine, and double vision. Some patients have reported feeling back pain, blurry vision, chest pains, trouble sleeping at night, and dry mouth.   Of course, there are some more severe side effects as well.

Is Lamictal dangerous?

By having someone to watch out for you so you don’t end up hurting yourself or someone else is probably a good idea.  Some patients reported that Lamictal leads to a rare inflammation on your brain and spinal cord.   This is a pretty serious side effect and you should go to the Emergency Room should you feel this could be you.  Don’t stop taking Lamictal till your doctor says it ok for you too.

Can you drink alcohol while on Lamictal?

Do not use while drinking alcohol.  While drinking, while you are on Lamictal, could increase your side effects and your chances of getting a seizure.

Can you drink coffee while taking Lamictal?

It is safe to drink coffee while on Lamictal.  It is good to keep in mind caffeinated drinks do not affect everyone the same.   You may be fine drinking coffee or caffeinated beverages.   Often times, Bipolar symptoms can get worse with caffeine.  

Does Lamictal help with sleeping?

Lamictal can cause sleeping issues.  You could feel the amount of drowsiness that lasts throughout the day and not sleep well at night.   This is a  common side effect of Lamictal.  If you are drowsy when you are taking Lamictal for mood stabilizer or bipolar depression your sleeping needs could change.  But, remember sleeping is often how many people deal with depression as well.  So, pay attention and let your doctor know.

Can Lamictal cause weight gain?

The drug Lamictal is not known for weight gain or losing weight, however, it can happen. If you see yourself gaining or losing weight it could be from your disorder not from the medication.  If you are taking Lamictal for seizures, you will most likely experience weight loss but for any other reason, weight gain can occur.  For example, when your bipolar disorder is under control you may experience more of an appetite.  This can lead to weight gain over time.  This is not due to the Lamictal but due to the symptoms being in control.  Many people in deep depression don’t have an appetite, but getting those mood swings under control will help. 

Can Lamictal help you lose weight?

When taking Lamictal for seizures from epilepsy people tend to see weight loss.   However, if you are taking the medication for another reason, people tend to see weight gain.  More people noticed when taking the drug caused them to lose weight instead of gaining it around the hips.

What is Lamictal prescribed for?

The most common problem that they use Lamictal used for is seizures associated with epilepsy.  Some people use the drug to settle mood swings and are diagnosed with bipolar depression. Lamotrigine is anticonvulsant and antiepileptic. Anticonvulsant means to treat mood swings and deals with stabilizing swings and antiepileptic means to treat seizures.

Is Lamictal safe?

FDA states that the drug is safe and only linked to rare life-threatening immune system reaction called hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis which leads to seven hospitalized and one death a year.

Can Lamictal lower your immune system?

The FDA states that the drug has a very rare risk of you lowering your immune system. Most side effects are actually allergic responses to the medication such as fever, rashes, problems in red blood cells, and having other issues within the body.

Is Lamictal good for depression?

The drug Lamictal could be prescribed to you when you have a severe case of depression. It takes 6 to 8 weeks to build up in your immune system for the effects to be seen. Some relief should be seen in 6 weeks and on the lowest dosage.  Should the doctor feel you need to increase your dose, this will build over time.

Imodium FAQs

Can Loperamide be taken daily?

Yes and no. This question ties to the question of how long does Imodium take to work. It all depends on your health condition and your rehab advisor. However, a typical Imodium dosage is 2 mg, twice a day. Whenever it is needed, you can gradually increase the amount of Loperamide but not more than 8 mg a day. If your rehab advisor advised otherwise, then you should be good. Just in case you see any signs of rectal bleeding or blood in your stool, then stop taking Imodium immediately and pay a visit to your doctor.

Is Loperamide good for IBS?

IBS stands for Irritable Bowel Syndrome that is an intestinal disorder causing pain in the belly, gas, diarrhea, and constipation. In this case, your doctor or rehab advisor may advise you to consume over-the-counter medicines like Loperamide for relief. So, consuming Imodium could help make your stool less watery but it would not probably help with the other symptoms.

Can Imodium cause heart problems?

A short answer is YES. Despite the fact that there are non-prescription strengths of Imodium, it could still lead to heart problems. That is why you should stay away from consuming this medication without consulting your rehab advisor. Heart issues like abnormal heart rhythms, drop in heart rate and blood pressure as well as heart attack can all caused by over dosage of Imodium. So, do not take high risks. Can you give Imodium to a child?

If your child is 12+ years old and is suffering from short term diarrhea, then you could give him/her the same dose as an adult. Yet, if a child’s age ranges from 12 to 17 years old and is suffering from IBS, then you should consult your doctor first. Do not put your child’s health at risk.

Generally, you should not give Loperamide to children who are under the age of 12 as this could put their health at risk.

What drugs should not be taken with Gabapentin?

Technically, you should not be consuming any other medicines parallel to Neurontin. The idea behind is that a few prescribed drugs could interact not so well with each other. This includes but is not limited to pain medications like Vicodin and Morphine. Additionally, medicines like Naproxen could have an anti-effect with Gabapentin. Finally, health experts advise to terminate the intake of any heartburn medications if you are on Gabapentin.

How long does it take for Gabapentin to start working?

In the most regular cases, your pain will be significantly reduced after a week or two. However, it depends on different factors like your age, health condition, dose, and any other related addiction issues. That does not mean you will wait forever. We have patients who reported a pain reduction in as short as 1 day. So, if you do not feel any improvement after 3-5 days of the first intake, then you may need to talk to your doctor.

Can Gabapentin help you sleep?

In fact, Neurontin is not designed for that purpose. There are other medicines available in the pharmacy that could help you better with insomnia. However, a few recent studies showed that the regular intake of a small dose of Gabapentin will help you sleep.
